Job: Teacher for Summer 2025 LearnNow Academic Summer Camp
Location: 1040 Park Avenue, San Jose, California, 95126
Dates/Times: June 16, 2025 – July 24, 2025, Monday through Thursday, 8am to 3pm
Compensation: $20-$30/hour, based on experience. Paid twice a month.
Job Description:
Join us for the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the lives of students in a supportive and mission-driven work environment! Our Learn Now Programs focus on supporting 1st-7th grade students. Many of our students are approximately two years behind grade level and need extra help in both language arts and math. We are looking for compassionate, organized, and enthusiastic tutors to join our team and make a real difference in the lives of these children.
Responsibilities:
• Assist students with homework and academic challenges in math (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, entry-level geometry, entry-level algebra, including concepts, formulas, and calculations) and language arts (reading, writing, comprehension, grammar, and vocabulary).
• Deliver and teach curriculum designed to help students reach grade-level proficiency in both subjects.
• Develop and assess individualized learning plans for each student.
• Assess, identify, and support special needs and disabilities in students, helping to advocate for Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) when needed.
• Assign, grade, and provide feedback on homework and in-class assignments.
• Maintain organized case notes for each child daily.
• Create a supportive and encouraging learning environment.
• Provide students with healthy snacks during sessions.
• Assist with light cleaning and organization of the office after class.
Qualifications:
• Minimum of an Associate Degree (AA) in any field; a Bachelor Degree is a plus.
• Must be able to pass an elementary school-level curriculum assessment in math and language arts.
• Strong understanding of elementary math concepts and language arts fundamentals.
• Experience working with children in an educational setting.
• Bilingual candidates are strongly encouraged to apply.
• Credentials or experience working with children with special needs or disabilities are highly valued.
• Familiarity with advocating for IEPs and special education processes is a plus.
• Excellent organizational, communication, and teaching skills.
• Ability to explain concepts and new topics in a clear and positive manner.
• Empathy, patience, and a genuine passion for helping children succeed.
Additional Requirements:
• Must be able to start by June 16, 2025.
• Must successfully pass a background check (no history of harm to children).
• CPR certification is required or must be obtained within 14 days of employment.
• Fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
• Commitment to supporting underserved children with compassion and care.
